Help To Fight Nuisance

Highcroft Quarry
Events held  The law allows landowners to hold events on their land on no more than 28 days a year (14 days for markets, bike or car racing and speed trials).   The owner does not need planning permission.  The best local residents can do is to contain events to no more than 28 days a year.

Because it is a quarry, the enforcement authority is Somerset County Council.  If you notice an event, report it to 0300 123 2224.

Noise  Some events – especially shooting – are very noisy.   In law, noise can be a nuisance as “an unlawful interference with a person’s use or enjoyment of land”.   It can be a “statutory nuisance”.  If an event is noisy and bothering you, complain.   The more people who complain, the better.

Help enforcement – keep a Nuisance Diary.  Tell us too.   We will report it and add it to our log (see below).

Above all – don’t suffer, complain.
